Philanthropy

Alpha Gamma Rho at Penn State is not just a member of the Greek Community, but an involved member of the local community in which we live.  Gamma Chapter participates in various community service oppurtunities as well as supporting many philanthropic organizations.  Community involvment is an important part of Alpha Gamma Rho, and provides a way for our members to grow into more active and involved citizens by using our most sacred goals: Aggressive Effort, Resourcefulness, and Individual Endeavor.

Community Service:

Community service is such a part of our Fraternity that we expect each Brother to complete overall40 hours of community service each semester, either on campus or in the community.  With each Brother always looking for a new avenue for service, we keep an up-to-date listing of all the opportunities avalible.

Recently Brothers have helped with Blood Drives through the Red Cross, THON Canning Trips, 'Out of the Darkness' Suicide Prevention Walk, "Earth Day, Birthday", Community Holiday Lights Tour, and many others.  We feel the best way to support our community is to give back to it.

Philanthropy:

Philanthropy plays an equally important part in the life of our house, and we support many charitable hoodangorganizations and funds. Our most important philanthropic events revolve around Penn State's IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) in which we are active participants. THON went on to raise over $7 Million this year, and continues to be the largest student run philanthropies in the nation, and the largest run by a Greek Community.

Outside of THON, each year we host several of our own Philanthropy events at the Chapter House. This Fall we will be hosting AGR-Phi Mu "Hoodang" 2010- A Greek competition and concert (ft. The Zak Sobel Band) which raises money in memory of our Brother Nick Mullin, who passed away in May 2010 after a battle with Pancreatic and Liver Cancer.
